Short answer
Two types of hose are used in building fire hose cabinets. In buildings without trained staff, a cabinet to TS EN 671-1 with a round semi-rigid hose to TS EN 694, 25 mm in diameter and at most 30 m long, is required. In buildings with trained firefighting staff, a cabinet to TS EN 671-2 with a layflat hose of nominal diameter not exceeding 50 mm and length not exceeding 20 m may be used.

What does the regulation require?
In Türkiye, fire hose cabinets inside buildings are installed according to Article 94 of the Regulation on Fire Protection of Buildings. In buildings without trained staff, a cabinet with a round semi-rigid hose that the building occupants can use themselves is required: the cabinet complies with TS EN 671-1 and the hose with TS EN 694, 25 mm in diameter and at most 30 m long. In buildings with trained firefighting staff, a layflat hose cabinet to TS EN 671-2 may be used; the nominal diameter of the layflat hose does not exceed 50 mm and its length does not exceed 20 m. The two cabinet types also have different design flow rates and pressures. The outlets to which the fire brigade connects are Storz type, 50 mm or 65 mm.

| Ambient temperature within the standard's scope | -20 °C … +60 °C | -20 °C … +60 °C |
How to assess hose replacement and orders
A semi-rigid hose cabinet, together with its reel and connections, is assessed as a system within the scope of TS EN 671-1; the hose is part of this system. When replacing a worn hose, keep the existing cabinet type and the hose's standard marking, diameter and length the same; do not fit a different hose or a general-purpose water hose. Record the replacement and its date in the maintenance log: having periodic maintenance carried out according to TS EN 671-3 is the obligation of the building owner or manager. The conformity of the cabinet and the hose is verified by the authorised person or organisation responsible for the design and acceptance.
Pre-order checklist
- Cabinet type: round semi-rigid (TS EN 671-1) or layflat (TS EN 671-2)?
- Hose standard and the marking on the hose: TS EN 694 or EN 14540
- Hose diameter and length: the same as the existing reel and cabinet?
- Coupling and nozzle: the connection type in the cabinet; the nozzle's shut-off, spray and jet functions
- Environment: is there an area below -20 °C, with seawater or chemical exposure?
- Maintenance log: date of the last periodic maintenance and the person or company that carried it out

Frequently asked questions
Can a garden hose or an ordinary water hose be fitted to a fire hose cabinet?
No. The regulation requires a round semi-rigid hose to TS EN 694 in a semi-rigid hose cabinet and a cabinet to TS EN 671-2 for a layflat hose cabinet. A general-purpose water hose does not meet these requirements.

Who has the fire hose cabinet hose maintained?
The building owner, manager or responsible building official is obliged to have the periodic maintenance of fire hose cabinets and hose reel systems specified in TS EN 671-3 carried out. For maintenance intervals and scope, refer to the standard itself and to the maintenance company.

Which coupling is used at the outlets to which the fire brigade connects?
Fire brigade hose connections on the fixed pipework are Storz type, 50 mm or 65 mm in diameter.
