Choose a sandblast hose by the type and grain size of the abrasive, the inside diameter, and the nozzle and coupling system; the abrasion-resistant tube and the hose's electrical properties are assessed together. An "antistatic" marking alone does not show that the whole line is safe.

First identify the chemical's name, concentration, temperature and contact time; the hose is then selected from the manufacturer's compatibility table using this information. Seals and fittings must also suit the same chemical; an empty cell in the table does not mean "suitable".

Each gas needs a hose suited to that gas: for LPG, use a hose expressly suitable for LPG service; in welding, hoses for oxygen, acetylene and other fuel gases are separate. A petrol or general fuel hose is not used for LPG, even briefly; the colour of a hose does not prove the gas type.

R2 is the SAE J517 100R2 class: a hydraulic hose reinforced with two wire braids. EN 853 2SN is also a two-wire-braid class; many manufacturers supply the same hose to both standards, but the standards are separate. The pressure rating is read from the product's catalogue value for that size, not from the number of braids.

Camlock couplings are identified by a type letter: A is a male camlock with internal thread, B a female camlock with external thread, C a female camlock with hose shank, D a female camlock with internal thread, E a male camlock with hose shank and F a male camlock with external thread; DC is a female blind cap and DP a male blind plug. When ordering, state the size (a female camlock is measured inside, a male camlock outside), thread standard, material and gasket along with the type letter.

Seals, fittings and cleaning conditions must suit food contact as much as the hose's inner tube. In a hygienic clamp connection, the ferrules, gasket and clamp must match the same standard and series; a clamp that closes does not by itself mean a correct match.

First determine the water pressure and temperature, the cleaning chemical and the gun connection. Hot water, steam and high-pressure washing are separate services; each needs its own product and suitable fittings.

A layflat discharge hose can be used on the delivery (outlet) side of the pump; it folds flat when unpressurised and takes little space. Choose the product for the pump's delivery pressure, the fluid and the coupling type; a layflat hose is used on suction only if it is expressly stated as suitable for suction.

The steel spiral helps the hose keep its shape, but on its own it does not show resistance to full vacuum or provide earthing. Vacuum and pressure ratings are read from the manufacturer's table according to the product's diameter and temperature.

It depends on which fluid passes through it and at what temperature: hot water hose and steam hose are separate product classes. The temperature rating is read together with the pressure; a high temperature figure does not show that a hose is suitable for steam.
