Short answer
In a hygienic clamp connection, the clamp outside diameter, tube diameter and flow bore are different dimensions. For a correct match, the connection standard, series, ferrule geometry, gasket and clamp must be defined together.
Technical explanation
DIN 32676 relates to clamp connections with molded gaskets for hygienic and aseptic applications. The fact that the clamp can join two ferrules does not mean that the internal bore and gasket geometry are correct. A wrong gasket can create a protrusion or a gap inside. In addition to material and surface properties, cleaning conditions are also important. Even when common names such as 'Tri-clamp' are used, the actual standard and size series must be specified.
Topic-specific checkpoints
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Ferrule | External connection diameter and geometry |
| Tube/bore | Dimensions defining the flow cross-section |
| Gasket | Profile, material and contact suitability |
| Standard | Series and current edition |
How is it assessed in practice?
On the sample, measure the ferrule outside diameter, tube outside diameter, internal bore and gasket profile separately. Instead of writing only '2 inch clamp' in the order, add the standard and size series. Bearing in mind that different tube sizes may share the same clamp, compare the internal bore separately. During assembly, check the alignment of the gasket and the manufacturer's tightening method. Food suitability or cleanability is evaluated by the entire contact surface and the conditions of use, not by the name of the clamp type.

Frequently asked questions
If the clamp closes, is the hygienic connection correct?
That alone is not sufficient. The ferrules, internal bore and gasket profile must also be compatible.
