Short answer
In a DIN 11851 type hygienic fitting, the nut, connection ends and seal together form a system. Ordering only by the round nut or the nominal diameter is not sufficient for correct geometry and cleanability.
Technical explanation
DIN 11851 covers stainless steel screwed pipe connections in food and chemical applications. The scope of the standard includes the connection form, material and relevant dimensions; it does not automatically confer suitability on the hose itself. Welded or other connection forms may be defined separately. The seal material must be compatible with the process and cleaning fluids. It is not correct to mix different hygienic connection standards on the basis of similar appearance.

How is it assessed in practice?
On the order form, write the standard, nominal size, tube or hose side, seal material and the required document. Verify with a drawing or product code that the mating connection is the same system. Specify the temperature and chemical of the cleaning cycle; do not select a seal suitable only for the production fluid. At acceptance on delivery, check surface damage, seal seating and the internal bore of the assembly. The standard's name must not be used in place of actual fabrication and cleaning verification.

Frequently asked questions
Does marking DIN 11851 show that the whole hose is food grade?
No. A separate suitability assessment is required for the hose, seal, assembly and conditions of use.
