Short answer
Hose storage must be arranged to protect the product from contamination, deformation, environmental effects and incorrect identification. Storage conditions vary by material family; the manufacturer's storage and handling instructions are the basis.
Technical explanation
ISO 8331 is a guide covering the selection, storage, use and maintenance of rubber and plastics hoses. Manufacturer safety instructions also state that storage conditions can affect product life. Coiling a hose too tightly, leaving it under a heavy load or keeping its ends open can cause problems before use. For metal hoses, the method of handling and bending is also particularly important; a single storage recipe is not valid for all constructions.
Topic-specific checkpoints
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Protection | End caps and suitable packaging |
| Stacking | Preventing crushing and excessive bending |
| Identification | Batch, product code and receipt date |
| Check | Storage conditions and periodic observation |
How to evaluate it in practice
Define the shelf location according to product family, length and packaging requirements. Preserve end protection, batch markings and the receipt date. For cut pieces, establish a link back to the source reel. Check newly received product not only for quantity but also for damage and documentation. During shelf audits, keep records of crushing, contamination and improper stacking. Where a storage temperature or maximum coiling dimension is needed, it must be taken from the product documentation.

Frequently asked questions
Does a hose in unopened packaging not need to be checked?
Packaging is not proof of correct storage and damage-free transport. Acceptance and pre-use checks must still be considered.
