Short answer
Spare hose management is not just about stock quantity. It aims to ensure that the correct assembly revision is available, stored under suitable conditions and ready for use. Rotation decisions must take into account product age, storage history and technical suitability in addition to the receipt date.

Technical explanation
Storage and maintenance guides show that the conditions of a hose before it is used are also important. Having an old assembly or one of uncertain identity on the shelf does not mean that a suitable spare is available. When the product code changes, the connection geometry, length or assembly instruction may also have changed. For this reason, stock equivalence is not established on the basis of external appearance or nominal diameter alone.

How to evaluate it in practice
For critical lines, create a spare list linked to the approved assembly revision. When issuing from stores, check the product identification, end protection, physical condition and documentation match. Use the first-in, first-out approach together with the manufacturer's life restrictions and revision validity. Count and inspect unused spares at defined intervals. Define a return flow so that an assembly removed during an emergency replacement can be set aside for root cause investigation; scrapping the old product directly can destroy evidence.
Original editorial recommendation; not a clause of a standard.
Frequently asked questions
Can a hose of the same diameter serve as an emergency spare?
Diameter alone is not enough; pressure, material, connections, length and suitability for the application must be verified.
