Short answer
Compact hydraulic hoses are designs that, in certain series, meet tighter installation requirements. For 'compact', the outside diameter, minimum bend radius and fitting system must be examined per product; it is not assumed on its own that all dimensions are smaller.
Technical explanation
ISO 11237 covers compact wire braided hydraulic hose types. The advantage of a compact product is meaningful only when compared with the actual installation need. Even if the hose body passes through a narrow gap, the outer envelope of the ferrule, nut or elbow may not fit. The minimum bend radius also does not mean the assembly can be forced to that radius in every situation; movement, the straight entry zone and twisting are examined separately. The product name does not replace the assembly geometry.
Topic-specific checkpoints
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Body envelope | Actual outside diameter and tolerance. |
| Connection envelope | Ferrule, nut, wrench flat and elbow dimensions. |
| Bending space | The product's minimum value and the actual routing. |
| Service access | Removal and installation, wrench use and maintenance clearance. |
How is it assessed in practice?
For a space problem, first measure the narrowest point the hose passes through and the removal distance during maintenance. Add to the model not only the body diameter of the candidate product but also the connection dimensions of the finished assembly. For example, a hose being crushed when a cover closes is not solved by the catalog bend value being suitable. To check the full range of movement of the new assembly, record clearance, abrasion and connection loads as separate items; do not make looking comfortable to the eye the only acceptance criterion.
Original editorial recommendation; not a clause of a standard.
Frequently asked questions
Can a compact hose be crimped with the old fitting?
Only if there is system data verified for that product code. A compact construction can change the outside diameter and the assembly requirement; the crimp dimension of the previous hose should not be carried over.
