How to read a hose standard and check its edition

Short answer

A standard number alone is not enough: the edition, the scope and any amendments must be checked. A publicly available summary of a standard does not replace the full technical requirements. Product conformity must also be documented separately.

Record the edition date

A concrete example: for ISO 18752, an old search result may show the 2022 edition while the official catalog lists the 2025 edition. For this reason, we do not accept a search result title alone as the "current standard". The record contains the check date and the official source.

Do not add claims outside the scope

The ISO 18752 summary explains that it does not define requirements for the end fittings. The number of a standard should not be regarded as sufficient evidence of the conformity of the entire connection system.

Recommended standard reading card

  • Standards body, number, part and edition
  • Published/withdrawn status and check date
  • Application and product scope
  • Whether the full text has been reviewed
  • Verification status of national adoption or TSE equivalent
  • Which standard and edition the product document refers to

The limit of a public summary

Publicly available bibliographic and scope information does not mean that the licensed normative full text has been reviewed. Paid full texts are not redistributed in this guide. Instead of automatically declaring a product document citing an older edition "nonconforming", a scope assessment will be requested from the manufacturer and the relevant technical lead.

Frequently asked questions

Is it enough for a standard to be written in the catalog?

No. A reference to a standard and verified evidence of conformity for a specific product must be evaluated separately.

Original editorial recommendation; not a clause of a standard.

Does a public summary replace the full text of a standard?

No. Public scope, edition information and a source link are not the normative full text.
