Short answer
Supports on a steam hose must carry the weight without crushing, twisting or forcing the hose to a tight radius. The load near the connection and the entire route are assessed together. A single universal support spacing should not be applied to all diameters and lengths.
Technical explanation
The weight of a long or heavy hose assembly and its contents can transfer load to the connections. Proper support helps reduce sagging and the formation of sharp kinks. However, suspending it from a thin point or resting it on a hard edge can cause local damage. The ability of the hose to move under temperature and pressure, as well as condensate accumulation, are also part of the route review. The minimum bend radius must be read for the relevant size of the product.
Topic-specific checkpoints
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Weight | Assessment of the hose, connections and operating contents together. |
| Contact surface | No local crushing and no sharp edges. |
| Movement | Suitable layout for thermal and operational movement. |
| Inspection | Connections and the areas under supports can be seen. |
How is it assessed in practice?
Show the support plan on the line drawing; indicate which part is fixed and which is movable. For example, instead of hanging a hose fully taut, the necessary range of movement must be determined with manufacturer data. Also check whether the supports obstruct access and inspection. If a previous damage location is hidden after a new support is added, this does not mean the problem has been solved. In site acceptance, the entire route and the ends must be inspected at the same time.

Frequently asked questions
Is it enough to place supports at equal intervals?
Spacing alone is not sufficient. The arrangement required by the diameter, length, weight, connection position, temperature and movement must be assessed.
