Short answer
In a welded metal hose, the material document, weld fabrication and the finished assembly test are different pieces of evidence. A single certificate does not automatically cover all of these; the required documents must be clearly defined in the application specification.
Technical explanation
The body, braid and ends of a metal hose may have different material records. The welding procedure and fabrication control are not the same operation as the leak-tightness or pressure test of the finished assembly. The publicly available scope of ISO 10380 concerns metal hoses and assemblies; weld acceptance criteria that have not been seen should not be invented by using the document's name. The applicable welding qualification and inspection requirements are determined by a competent fabrication assessment.

| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Material | Identification for body, braid and ends |
| Welding | Applicable fabrication and qualification record |
| Inspection | Method and basis for acceptance |
| Assembly test | Result linked to the delivered unit |
How is it assessed in practice?
Prepare a document matrix before the quotation: material traceability for which part, which record for which weld, which test for which assembly? If there is no assembly number on the report, note the risk that no link can be established between the document and the delivered part. Have the document type and scope written instead of a general 'certified' statement. Check the date and revision of the records from the fabricator and their relationship with the relevant order. Do not complete a missing document afterwards with an estimated number or signature.
Original editorial recommendation; not a clause of a standard.
Frequently asked questions
Does a material certificate also verify weld quality?
Not on its own. Weld and finished assembly checks must be documented within their own scopes.
