Short answer
In compressed air hose, the hose and couplings are selected together; separation of the connection or rupture of the hose can cause uncontrolled movement. Working pressure, temperature, oil/moisture in the air, the locking system and a safe pressure release method must be defined according to the application.
Technical explanation
Compressed gas shows hazard and energy release behavior different from liquid transfer. The hose, connection and disconnection system to be used in air service must be selected for this purpose. The mechanical lock of the coupling and a safety restraint, if present, are different functions; the presence of one does not remedy a nonconformity in the other. Even if the line appears shut off, pressure may remain inside the assembly. Use and disconnection must be carried out according to the facility's safe procedure and the product's instructions; the connection must not be forced under pressure.
Topic-specific checkpoints
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Air condition | Pressure, temperature, moisture and oil content. |
| Coupling | Service suitability, lock, seal and disconnection instructions. |
| Movement risk | Area affected in case of rupture/separation and assessment of suitable protection. |
| Operation | Isolation, verification of residual pressure and authorized use. |
How is it assessed in practice?
In the recommended check card, define the compressor outlet, the fixed distribution line and the hand tool supply as separate applications. It should be clear where the person using the connection disconnects the coupling and how they verify the pressure. Adding a safety cable should not close out a wrong hose or incompatible coupling selection as a solution. For example, on a hand tool line that is frequently disconnected, suitable pressure release features are as important as the nominal size of the connection body. Do not pressurize the line before the coupling lock, pressure, temperature and the hose's air service scope are verified.

Frequently asked questions
Can I test an air hose with a compressor instead of a hydrostatic test?
This guide does not authorize such a test. The method, environment and protective arrangement of a pressure test must be determined by an approved procedure. Uncontrolled compressed air testing must not be carried out.
