Short answer
In valved quick couplings, the internal valves are part of fluid control when disconnected. The presence of a valve is not a guarantee of zero spillage, zero air inclusion or connection under pressure; the coupling series and operating conditions are examined separately.
Technical explanation
ISO 7241 is the relevant standard for hydraulic quick couplings; there are different interface series. The valve construction, flow loss and connection behavior depend on the actual product design. The threaded end size and the nominal bore of the coupling may be different pieces of information. An unsuitable mating half, seal or locking part does not provide a safe match. The interchangeability of one product family should not be interpreted as universal compatibility of all quick couplings.

| Port | Thread and actual bore size |
| Maintenance | Seal, lock and contamination check |
How is it assessed in practice?
For an existing coupling, record the code on the body, the mating half, the port thread and the service fluid. When selecting a new coupling, ask not only for the external dimension in the catalog but also for the pressure loss at the required flow rate and the manufacturer's mating information. Plan protective caps and a collection method according to the residual fluid and contamination risk after disconnection. If a valve is suspected of being stuck, do not force a pressurized coupling by hand; a competent maintenance inspection must be carried out after safe isolation.
Original editorial recommendation; not a clause of a standard.
Frequently asked questions
Does a valved coupling leave no fluid at all when disconnected?
There is no such guarantee for every product. Spillage and air inclusion performance must be taken from the manufacturer's data for the model concerned.
