Short answer
For a steam hose, pressure and temperature must be read together. Saturated steam has a pressure-temperature relationship; a higher temperature at the same pressure can indicate a different steam state. The pressure reference and the product's saturated/superheated steam scope must be clear.
Technical explanation
It is not correct to read the maximum pressure and temperature figures in a hose catalog as two independent approvals. The product may be designed for specific steam conditions. In addition, whether the steam table uses absolute or gauge pressure affects the result. In addition to normal production, commissioning, depressurization and shutdown conditions are also assessed. A table showing the thermodynamic relationship does not on its own prove that the selected hose can operate at that point; the product's service scope is also required.
Topic-specific checkpoints
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Pressure | Value, unit, absolute/gauge reference and measurement point. |
| Temperature | Fluid temperature in the same operating state. |
| Steam state | Definition of the saturated, wet or superheated condition with process data. |
| Product scope | Suitability of the relevant model for the steam type and conditions. |
How is it assessed in practice?
In the selection file, keep the pressure value, its unit, reference and measurement point in separate fields. Tie the temperature to the same operating state. For example, if the pressure on the boiler display and the temperature at the hose inlet were taken at different times, the two should not be combined as a single verified operating point. Instead of sending only the two largest numbers to the manufacturer, communicate normal and transient states in a table. Do not close out an uncertain phase condition under the word 'steam'.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use the maximum temperature and pressure on the label together?
Do not assume this. Under which condition the two limits apply at the same time must be verified from the manufacturer's documentation.
