How are fluid and ambient temperature distinguished?

Short answer

Fluid temperature is the condition the hose sees from the inside, and ambient temperature the condition it sees from the outside. Both are assessed in selection. Continuous operation, short-term peak, start-up and cleaning temperatures must be recorded separately; a single temperature figure is not enough to describe the application.

Technical explanation

The inner tube, reinforcement, outer cover, fittings and seals do not share the same temperature behavior. A catalog's general temperature range may not apply at the same pressure for all fluids. A nearby hot surface, radiant heat or lack of airflow can change the conditions at the outer surface. For this reason, the fluid temperature record and the ambient and contact conditions along the hose route are separate inputs. Adding a thermal protective sleeve also does not by itself raise the hose's internal fluid limit.

ItemDescription
FluidNormal and maximum value; contact duration and fluid type.
AmbientAir temperature along the route, proximity to and contact with hot surfaces.
Transient conditionTime-limited exposure during start-up, shutdown and process changes.
CleaningCleaning agent, temperature, duration and frequency of repetition.

How is it assessed in practice?

In the recommended review, open four time windows: cold start, steady production, shutdown and cleaning. For each, state where the temperature was taken from. If the tank temperature on the control screen does not represent the actual peak at the hose inlet, record this as missing data. For example, a line carrying a product at moderate temperature during production may move to a very different condition during cleaning. The selection file should not be closed based on the production row alone.

Frequently asked questions

Does fitting a heat sleeve over it raise the temperature class?

Do not assume this result. The sleeve's function against external heat and resistance to hot fluid from the inside are separate assessments. A protective sleeve is not a document that turns the existing hose into a different temperature class.
