Short answer
In chemical transfer, risk classification is not done by looking only at the name of the chemical. The hazards of the substance, concentration, temperature, quantity, transfer method and the possible consequences of a leak are examined together; hose selection is part of this assessment.
Technical explanation
Chemical resistance charts give initial information on material behavior under specific conditions. Mixtures, temperature and contact time can change the result. For duties with an explosive atmosphere risk, electrical properties and operational measures are addressed separately. None of these assessments replaces the others. A hose being resistant to a chemical does not on its own constitute a plan for safe draining, disconnection or personnel protection.
Topic-specific checkpoints
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Substance | Composition, concentration and hazards |
| Condition | Pressure, temperature, duration and quantity |
| Scenario | Connection, transfer, disconnection and cleaning |
| Control | Material, connection and operational measures |
How to evaluate it in practice
Add the safety data sheet, the actual process conditions and the transfer scenario to the technical assessment. In addition to normal operation, describe end-of-filling, cleaning and standby conditions. If the impact of a leak is high, evaluate leak-reducing connection options with the manufacturer; do not regard any connection as zero-risk. The facility's authorized team must determine emergency and environmental measures. A general risk score does not replace a chemical compatibility approval or permission for use.
Original editorial recommendation; not a clause of a standard.
Frequently asked questions
Does a positive result in a chemical chart complete the risk assessment?
No. The actual process conditions and the possible consequences of a leak must be evaluated separately.
