Short answer
A heavy-duty clamp may offer a different clamping and housing construction for certain applications; however, its name does not show that it can be used on all high-pressure or steam hoses. The combination verified with the hose and fitting governs.
Technical explanation
Clamp designs can vary in terms of band, bridge and bolt arrangement. A thick hose wall or a large outside diameter does not automatically make a single clamp type mandatory. The pull-out resistance and sealing of a pressurized assembly cannot be inferred from the bolt size alone. In applications such as steam there may be special connection standards and assembly methods; a general heavy-duty clamp is not considered a substitute for them.

How is it assessed in practice?
When choosing between two products, send the hose shank drawing to the manufacturer along with the clamp code and assembly diameter. Do not calculate the required clamping force yourself by generalizing from torque; there are friction and design differences. Define the pressure test request for the finished assembly. Do not compensate for weak or incompatible shank geometry by using a larger bolt. If loosening is observed in service, include temperature cycling and hose behavior in the root cause investigation.

Frequently asked questions
Can a heavy-duty clamp be fitted directly to a steam hose?
There is no such general suitability. A connection and assembly system verified for steam must be used.
