Short answer
Rigid PVC spiral reinforced hoses are defined by a flexible wall and a spiral structure that supports the shape. Suitability for suction or light material transfer is determined not from the appearance of the spiral but from the product's fluid, temperature, vacuum and bending data.
Technical explanation
The spiral structure affects the behavior of the hose when bent or under suction. However, the presence of reinforcement does not mean the same performance in every size and at every temperature. The abrasiveness of the transferred material and external dragging are separate sources of damage. The tightness of the end connection is as important as preserving the hose cross-section; air ingress on the suction side can cause problems without any visible liquid leak.
Topic-specific checkpoints
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Spiral | Material and geometry |
| Suction | Vacuum condition of the model |
| Abrasion | Material inside and friction outside |
| Tightness | Check that also covers air ingress on suction |
How is it assessed in practice?
During the site survey, mark the sections of the hose that narrow, get crushed or rub continuously against a hard surface during operation. For example, if there is a risk of crushing under a transport cart, design route protection before changing the product. Do not estimate the radius permitted by the manufacturer from the hose's natural lie. Add the internal bore of the fitting and the seating length of the hose end to the inspection plan. Leave the effect of a broken spiral or permanent deformation on use to a competent maintenance assessment.

Frequently asked questions
Is a hose better the stiffer its spiral is?
No. An appropriate balance between shape support, flexibility, weight and application conditions is needed.
