Short answer
In oil and fuel hose selection, the actual chemical composition, temperature and mode of use of the product must be determined. Diesel, gasoline, biofuel blends and hydraulic oil are not the same compatibility row. In addition to the inner tube, the seal, connection metal, permeation and electrical requirements are assessed.
Technical explanation
The description 'oil resistant' must be read together with which oil, temperature and contact condition it applies to. Fuel transfer, a fuel line or tanker unloading may involve different product and assembly requirements. The compatibility of the inner tube and the resistance of the outer cover to oil splashes are also not the same thing. Passage of gas or volatile components through the material can be an issue that must be considered even without visible degradation. Chemical tables do not automatically approve all details of the application.
Topic-specific checkpoints
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Fluid | Full product name, blend and technical/safety document. |
| Service | Filling, unloading, fuel supply or hydraulic circuit. |
| Compatibility | Contact with the inner tube, seal, metal and outer cover. |
| Safety requirement | Permeation, static electricity and a suitable coupling arrangement. |
How is it assessed in practice?
Add the full name of the fuel or oil and any blend information to the quotation request. If switching to a fuel different from the old product, do not keep the hose code out of habit. For example, the dragging and disconnection frequency of a hose used outdoors for a tanker connection differ from those of a fixed oil line inside a machine. In the equivalence file, show separate evidence for each of inner material compatibility, the coupling system and the electrical conditions. Do not consider the general term petroleum hose sufficient without knowing the full name of the fuel, its additives, its temperature and the product approval of the hose assembly.
Original editorial recommendation; not a clause of a standard.
Frequently asked questions
Can a hose suitable for gasoline be used with every biofuel blend?
This should not be assumed. When the blend and conditions change, product-specific compatibility confirmation is required; the general name 'fuel hose' is not sufficient.
