Short answer
A Camlock or cam and groove coupling is a quick-connect family in which an adapter and a coupler are joined by means of arms. The correct size, seal, material and service limit are selected together; the fact that the connection opens quickly does not mean that it can be opened under pressure.
Technical explanation
The cams seat in the groove of the mating adapter and hold the parts together; the seal performs the sealing function. A worn cam, damaged groove or unsuitable seal can affect the connection. The manufacturer's material and application restrictions are observed. Dust caps and dust plugs are not automatically accepted as pressure-bearing process blanking. The assembly method on the hose side must also be verified independently of the coupler family.

How is it assessed in practice?
At acceptance on delivery, check the arms, cam surface, adapter groove and seal seat separately. Before use, show the operator how the locking features work on the model concerned. Before opening, the facility's safe isolation and pressure relief procedure must be applied. If there is a leak, examine the correct part and seal match instead of forcing the arms with an extension bar. When changing material or brand, do not treat geometric similarity as the only proof of suitability; ask for a verified match.

Frequently asked questions
Can a Camlock connection be opened while under pressure?
No such assumption is made for general use. Safe isolation and pressure relief are required first; special product instructions are evaluated separately.
