Short answer
PU hose selection should not be based solely on the name polyurethane or on an abrasion claim. The conveyed particles, velocity, temperature, moisture, wall construction and motion are evaluated together; the performance of different PU formulations is not the same.
Technical explanation
Polyurethane hoses are a product family considered for abrasive material transfer; however, the manufacturer's product construction and application limits are decisive. Differences such as ether-based or ester-based formulation can change behavior against moisture and microorganisms. Abrasion resistance and the cutting effect of sharp particles are not the same property. A thicker wall does not, on its own, mean that flexibility or the overall service life in the application will improve.

How is it assessed in practice?
When examining a powder or granule line, record not only the material name but also the particle size, shape, moisture and bend points. If damage keeps occurring at the same elbow, take the tight bend and velocity conditions into an engineering assessment before changing the product. Write the manufacturer's test method and the relevant model code in the comparison table. Do not hide the electrical requirement inside the abrasion performance; ask for a separate document and assembly check. In maintenance, thinning and friction near the fitting should be tracked under different headings.
Original editorial recommendation; not a clause of a standard.
Frequently asked questions
Is PU the right choice for every abrasive material?
There is no such general conclusion. Besides abrasion, cutting effects, temperature, chemical contact and moisture must also be evaluated.
