Short answer
A metal helix or braid is not in itself a verified grounding connection. How the metal contacts the ends, the continuity path and the application criteria must be clearly defined and measured; visible wire is not sufficient evidence.
Technical explanation
The primary function of hose reinforcement may be mechanical. If it is to be used to provide an electrical property, the manufacturer's instructions for that construction and the end fitting assembly are required. A coating on the wire, an insulating layer or the way it is connected can affect the measurement path. Exposing one end in an improvised way can also change mechanical integrity and corrosion behavior. A requirement for electrical continuity must be addressed together with all the safety requirements of the hose assembly.

How to evaluate it in practice
If there is an electrical requirement in the order, state it before assembly. Instead of looking for visible wire at the end, ask for the manufacturer's connection method and test record. If it is thought that a cable needs to be added in the field, make this subject to a competent facility and product assessment; do not make random modifications. When producing a replacement hose, do not automatically treat a different reinforcement construction with the same appearance as equivalent. The inspection plan should include both the electrical measurement and damage to the wire and end areas.

Frequently asked questions
Is it enough to let the helix touch the fitting?
Incidental contact does not replace proper assembly and measurement. A method verified by the manufacturer is required.
