How to compare technical equivalence in quotations

Short answer

Quotations are technically meaningful only if they are compared on the basis of the same service condition, the same assembly scope and the same acceptance terms. Placing a price per meter directly next to the price of an assembly with connections on both ends, or comparing different documentation scopes, gives misleading results.

Technical explanation

The hose and the connection component may each have their own catalog values; the limits of the assembly and assembly suitability are assessed together. When end geometry, seal material, overall length reference, temperature condition and test scope change, two quotations may not describe the same product. Sharing the same standard family name also does not show that all performance details are equal. The first task of a purchasing evaluation is not ranking prices but fixing the scope of the comparison.

How is it assessed in practice?

In the recommended comparison table, use a 'compliant', 'deviation' or 'document pending' status for each row. Do not score a claim whose document has not arrived as if it were accepted. For example, if one quotation includes the connections and a hydrostatic report while the other covers only the hose, the scope difference must be priced first. After that, delivery time, warranty terms and total cost can be addressed. Do not let a technical deviation become invisible within a low price.

Frequently asked questions

Is the higher-pressure quotation better in every case?

No. The diameter, bending, connection system, fluid and temperature requirements must also be met. An unused pressure advantage does not compensate for a nonconformity in another area.
