Short answer
With a worm drive clamp, selection starts with the outside diameter of the hose on the fitting falling within the appropriate clamping range; however, band construction, material, position and the manufacturer's torque are also required. Falling within the range is not on its own assembly suitability.
Technical explanation
Worm drive clamps are manufactured with different band widths and constructions. The softness, outer surface and shank geometry of the hose affect the working condition of the clamp. The clamping range is an adjustment range; it does not give the same sealing or pressure guarantee at every diameter and on every hose. The material designation must be checked not only for the band but also for the screw and housing parts. The manufacturer's assembly torque should not be copied from another clamp.

| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Range | Suitability for the assembled hose outside diameter |
| Band | Width, edge and surface construction |
| Material | Band, screw and housing information |
| Application | Position and manufacturer torque |
How is it assessed in practice?
Write the clamp code, range, hose and shank code together on the assembly form. Avoid placing the clamp too close to the hose end or in an unsuitable zone on the shank; use the manufacturer's drawing. Check for cutting, buckling or outer cover damage under the band. Keep the product label, as different material grades may have the same external appearance. If leakage recurs, re-examine the diameter and the combination instead of just increasing the tightening.

Frequently asked questions
Is choosing the clamp with the widest range an advantage in every case?
It is not. A design suited to the relevant assembly diameter and application must be selected; the size of the range is not a measure of performance.
